One Year Later

A little over two months ago we were approached by two friends of our son Michael’s, Scott Campbell and Jen Brown, who wanted to host a charity golf tournament to honor Michael’s memory and support a cause that was close to his heart, St. Baldrick’s Foundation. They had already secured a venue and done some preliminary planning, but the first thing I did was search the Internet for information about how to run such an event. Everything I read said that planning should begin at least one year before said event. Gulp!

We were not daunted and this Friday, November 1st, we will hold our first ever golf tournament.

There are so many people to thank – the folks at St. Baldrick's who helped us quickly set up our website so that we could begin advertising and fundraising [yes, you can still donate!], those who have responded to the call for golfers, volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who has made generous donations to St. Baldrick’s even though you won’t be able to join us.

After the golf tournament at Steel Canyon Golf Course, we will continue our celebration Friday night at Padriac's in Vinings. Friends, family, everyone is invited to join us for a great party! (See below for more information about the party!) For those of you who are joining us at the golf course - golfers, volunteers, and spectators!! - PLEASE read the following important information:

Golfers: Please plan to arrive between 11:30 and 11:45 am. Registration begins at noon and you can also take advantage of the practice facility (practice balls provided). If you have NOT paid your entry fee, please remember to bring your checkbook or cash. Tournament rules will be furnished at registration. Play will begin precisely at 1:00 pm and will be a shotgun format.

Volunteers: Please be at the club by 11:00 am, when you will receive your assignments for the afternoon. If you can’t be there that early, come when you can. We’ll need help cleaning up after the tournament too.

**Lunch and drinks will be provided for golfers and volunteers and will be available for purchase for spectators.

**You will have an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for some awesome gifts, including gift cards and gift baskets from local restaurants, spa gift certificates, brand new small kitchen appliances (blender, coffee maker, etc.), and wine baskets, to name just a few. But you can also help us with our fundraising by selling raffle tickets to your friends and family. In fact, attached is a page of raffle tickets, which you can print out, duplicate and sell in the next few days. Don’t forget to bring the money and raffle ticket stubs with you! The drawing will be held later Friday night at Padriac’s, and you do not have to be present to win.

**In addition, you will have an opportunity to bid on several items in our silent auction, including a weekend at Trilliam Links & Lake Club in Cashiers, NC, a round of golf for four at the Standard Club, 3 signed baseballs from the Boston Red Sox, and a Clemson golf bag. Directions: Steel Canyon Golf Course is located at 460 Morgan Falls Road in Sandy Springs. Take GA-400 to exit 6- Northridge Rd. Travel west to Roswell Rd. Turn left and go approximately 1 1/2 miles to the second traffic light which is Morgan Falls Rd. Turn right. Steel Canyon Golf Club is down 1/2 mile on the left.

EVERYONE is invited to join us Friday night at Padriac’s, 2460 Cumberland Pkwy., in Vinings, where our celebration (and fundraising) will continue at 7:00 pm. Those coming to the party will also have the opportunity to bid on auction items and purchase raffle tickets, but in addition, for a $10 donation at the door, you will receive a drink ticket and a ticket for a chance to win a door prize. The band,Token, will provide entertainment, and it will be a wonderful opportunity to remember our son, our brother, our friend – Michael. We hope you will join us Friday night.

Directions to Padriac's: From Sandy Springs, take I-285 West to Paces Ferry Road. At the top of the ramp turn left and then take a right onto Cumberland Parkway SE. Padriac’s will be on your left.

Oh, one last thing [I hope you're still reading...] golf is a rain or shine sport and we do not have a "rain date", so bring your umbrellas and/or pray for sunshine!! :)
